Religious Studies

Key Stage 3 Year 7

Religious Studies plays a central role in the education and lives of pupils in Heolddu Comprehensive School. Religious Studies is not just for people who follow a religion, it is about understanding different beliefs, cultures and perspectives on the world and God. Religious Studies encourages them to develop respect, tolerance and sensitivity to others, in particular those whose faith and beliefs are different from their own. It will challenge students to think for themselves and develop their skills of understanding and reasoning.

 

Pupils in Key Stage 3 are given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of the main world religions, they achieve this by study of the following topics:-

 

Year 7


• What is Religion
• Introduction to Christianity and Hinduism
• Rites of Passage – Baptism, Hindu Marriage, Afterlife, Hindu/Christian Funerals
• Pilgrimage – Hajj, Lourdes, Jerusalem
• Importance of the Family

 

 

Key Stage 3 Year 8

Pupils in Key Stage 3 are given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of the main world religions, they achieve this by study of the following topics:-

 

Year 8
 

• Acts of worship
• Puja
• Holy Communion
• Leaders
• Life of Jesus
• Gandhi
• Religious texts

 

Key Stage 3 Year 9

Pupils in Key Stage 3 are given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of the main world religions, they achieve this by study of the following topics:-

 

Year 9
 

•Stewardship
•Judaism – Place of worship, food laws, festivals, Moses
