Learning Resource Centre

The Learning Resource Centre is a welcoming, lively and modern learning resource centre. Set in the heart of the school, we aim to inspire a love of literature and to create confident, independent and inquisitive researchers. We stock over 6,000 fiction and reference books – from the classics to the latest releases – and support the curriculum by offering a vibrant mix of traditional resources.

Close relationships with subject departments enhance and support the wider curriculum.  We welcome pupils at break and lunchtime to study, seek advice, choose books and read quietly.

Heolddu is committed to the importance and promotion of reading. In addition to providing books for study and pleasure, the Learning Resource Centre supports the promotion of literacy throughout the school.

Author Visits and Lit Quiz

Introducing pupils to the authors who write the books they enjoy is a great way to inspire and nurture a love of reading. Recent visiting authors have included Catherine Fisher, Cathy Farr and Bali Rai.  Every year pupils are also invited to enjoy a fun and informal literary quiz competing against other secondary schools within the Caerphilly County Borough.
