History

Key Stage 5 Year 12

In year 12 students study the WJEC AS Level course, which includes a study of Europe during the period 1879 – 1989 with a focus on international relations, Italy under Mussolini, the causes of World War I and World War II and the main events in the Cold War. Students also have the opportunity to study key aspects of reform and protest in Wales and England during the period 1830 – 48 including the Great Reform Act 1832, Chartism, the Poor Law Amendment

 

Act 1834 and public health developments.

 

There are two examination papers for the AS course
 

1.The period study, which examines students’ understanding of European history.

 

2. The in depth study which examines students’ understanding of Welsh / British history
 

Key Stage 5 Year 13

In year 13 students study the WJEC A Level course, which enables pupils to further develop their knowledge and understanding of major European events including a study of social, economic and political change in Germany between 1879 – 1989. Students are also expected to complete an independent and extensive piece of research, which contributes to the overall A Level grade.

 

There are two examinations for the A Level course
 

1.The period study which examines students’ understanding of European history.

 

2. The in depth study which examines students’ understanding of Welsh / British history.
